All About Wallace Road Nursery |
We aim to provide a happy, secure and welcoming environment to every child and build a positive partnership between home and nursery. Staff get to know children by observation, interaction and conversing with parents. Staff wish to work with parents to promote children's learning and well being in a happy atmosphere of play and discovery. We will provide stimulating and challenging opportunities for children to learn through first hand experience. We aim to ensure that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum irrespective of gender, social origin, or any special educational need. |
The nursery staff work as a team to plan and deliver the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' curriculum. Children can choose from a wide range of activities with a strong emphasis on learning through play. We believe that children learn and remember by “doing” and much of our work comprises practical first hand opportunities and experiences. We also work towards the five outcomes in 'Every Child Matters.' If you would like more information about the curriculum please click the Early Years Foundation Stage button. Termly plans are shared with parents and staff keep records of the children's development. We have Parents' Evenings/Parental Consultations during which parents may come and talk about their child. We operate a 'keyworker' system. A keyworker is responsible for settling a group of children and keeping records and observations of those children. |
THE NURSERY SESSION When the children arrive at nursery they say 'hello' to their keyworker, collect their name badge and then begin to play. The staff encourage them to participate in all areas of the curriculum. For the final twenty minutes of each session the children come together in small groups for activities such as singing, stories, music and drama. |
AREAS IN THE NURSERY We have three areas in the nursery: The Elmer Room, the Kipper Room and the 'Outside'. The children are free to choose where they would like to play and they can move freely between the areas. Click on the 'Nursery Tour' button for a closer look at these areas. |
