All about Wallace Road Nursery School

We aim to provide a happy, secure and welcoming environment to every child and to build a positive partnership between home and school. Staffs get to know children by observation, interaction and conversing with parents.

Staff wish to work with parents to promote children's learning in a happy atmosphere of play and discovery.  We will provide stimulating and challenging opportunities for children to learn through first hand experiences.

We aim to ensure that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum irrespective of gender, social or ethnic origin, or any special educational need.

 NURSERY ORGANISATION

The nursery staff work as a team.  There are teachers, nursery nurses, learning support assistants, a secretary/bursar and a cleaner. We offer the Foundation Stage Curriculum, as laid down by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), and we also work towards the five outcomes mentioned in the Government document 'Every Child Matters'. Click on the 'Foundation Stage' button to find out about the curriculum and 'Every Child Matters'. Daily activities are planned around a theme such as food, space, night, materials or bears.  Termly plans are shared with parents.  We believe children learn and remember by 'doing' and exploring through play.  Please click on the Foundation Stage button if you would like to find out more about the Foundation Stage Curriculum.

NURSERY ACTIVITIES AND ROUTINE

We have three areas at the nursery - the Elmer Room, the Kipper Room and the outdoor zone.  Each session, after saying 'hello' to their keyworker and collecting their name badge, the children are free to choose where they would like to play and they can move freely between the areas.  The staff encourage the children to participate in all areas of the curriculum.  A snack is served during the session.   For the final thirty minutes of each session all the children come together for singing followed by a small group story time or activity such as drama or music.

SPECIAL INFORMATION

We operate a school lending library where children can choose a book to share and enjoy with an adult.  The library is situated in the entrance hall and children can choose a book at any time.

Parents and carers are welcome to come along to our coffee and chat sessions, which take place in the Maisy Room on alternate Fridays.  Click on the 'Calendar' for these dates.

Staff keep records of the children's development.  We have Parental Consultations during which parents may come and talk about their child with their keyworker.  In addition we hold Parents' Evenings, which give parents the opportunity to look at some of the things the children have been doing in the nursery.

NURSERY OUTINGS

From time to time outside visits are arranged in connection with topics to help stimulate interest and increase the children's awareness and experiences of the world around them.  In the Autumn term we go for a walk in a local park and the children collect things that they can use for our Autumn theme.  During the summer term we have a day trip for the whole nursery.  On these occasions we have been to such places as Twycross Zoo, Gulliver's Land and the West Lodge Rural Centre.  On all outings parents are encouraged to accompany their children.
